Description

An addendum to The Line It Is Drawn's super-dickery week.

And again there is a back-story:
“Lois the Bat-Woman”
Superman is visiting Lois in her apartment prior to leaving for a mission in outer space.
Lois is soon to give evidence at the trial of notorious mobster Ronnie ‘Spats’ Gaiters and Superman is concerned that criminals may try to silence her.
Since Lois has recently been praising the work of Batwoman (Kathy Kane) he offers her a ring he acquired on the planet Vespertilio, said to turn the wearer into a batwoman.
Lois readily dons the ring only to find herself transforming into a bat-like monster.
To her dismay, Superman coolly informs her that the effect should wear off in a few days (roughly coinciding with his return to earth) but until then there is no cure. With that he leaves for his space mission, looking oddly pleased.
Lois’ natural vanity compels her to call in sick and spend the next days confined to her apartment, shunning all contact with her colleagues. When Jimmy Olsen calls to deliver some sporting memorabilia for the upcoming Daily Planet charity auction, he is puzzled to find Lois insists on hiding in her bedroom while he is in the apartment. Offers to visit from her sister Lucy and Lana Lang are quickly rebuffed.
For two days Lois works as best she can from her apartment, trying not to go stir-crazy. However, on the next day, as Superman had feared, events take a lethal turn. “The Blackout Gang”, a group of hired killers break into Lois’ apartment in the dead of night. Their distinctive M.O. which has given them their name is to fuse all lights in the victim’s building and use infra-red goggles to stalk their helpless prey.
To their surprise, Lois’ unnaturally acute hearing detects their hushed entry, and she is ready. The sonar power which is the product of her mutated form enables her to track her would-be killers as easily as their infra-red goggles do her. Meanwhile the powerful claws which enable a bat to hang upside down for hours on end prove to be a decisive weapon in the ensuing struggle. Lois has disposed of three of the four attackers when – disaster: The effect of the ring begins to wear off. Lois rapidly reverts to human form, losing her enhanced strength and sonar as she does so. With only the memory of her final assailants position in the room, Lois grabs the nearest object within her reach and swings it in a might arc. The attacker is poleaxed, joining his accomplices in an unconscious heap upon the floor.
The following day in the office of Perry White, Lois shows Perry, Jimmy and Clark the object which floored the last of the killers – a baseball bat which had been left by Jimmy earlier.
“No one can say I wasn’t a real bat-woman!” quips Lois, and the newsroom bursts into laughter!

Tremendous- a great nod to the 1950s sci-fi stories - do I detect nods to Dick Sprang & Curt Swan ? And that George Reeves wink ! Thanx!
