The Celestial (after Jack Kirby) by Nick-Perks The Celestial (after Jack Kirby) by Nick-Perks
One of Jack Kirby's "Celestials" somewhere in the orbit of Jupiter.
Started with a very rough pencil outline, so about 97% digital

I love it! As always, you managed to portray an iconic image with elegant simplicity :) A worthy tribute to the master and overall, a fantastic piece.

You're most welcome! Looking at this piece recalls childhood dreams of wanting to be astronauts & explorers of the unknown. Although most of us stayed earthbound, at least we have artworks like this to give us a peak into other worlds :)

holy digital-rendering batman! this looks great! i love how comfortable you've gotten with it all!

One thing that helps with planet rendering is to use the circular marquee tool, make a perfect circle, and then just go to town on the rendering. through gradients of shadow if you have to, have brighter spots and all of them will be contained within that perfect circle. : )

"Circular... marquee... tool..."? Uh-oh. Sounds like that might be something the Professionals use. <sigh>
I am still using Smoothdraw which is pretty damn good I must say - but it is showing itself to be a little buggy... What can I say? it's free!
I certainly do NOT feel comfortable with digital yet... still discovering what works - and what doesn't.
As always you are an inspiration. LOVE your colours!</sigh>

it's like the select tool, but in a circle. I'm sure most programs must have a select tool, right? I dunno, I've been using the same copy of photoshop for 7 years or something like that.

anyway, keep at it, you're doing fine!

I truly hope that when we make first contact the entities are all sporting Kirby designs. No one does cosmic like the King.

Great piece Nick!
